Being on the opposite side of the planet from you, our olive season is in June-July. Looks like we’ve got a decent fruit set this year, so can’t wait for harvest.

Well, if you don’t mind driving a few hours south of Tuscany, you could help us out with our next harvest! This year we didn’t harvest, awful I know, but we just didn’t have the time or energy to get it done. It was sad to see the olives wilting on the trees.

Laume~ I agree…we also only use olive oil in my house. I haven’t bought a store bought salad dressing in 5 years. I make my own fresh with olive oil and….whatever!

Olive trees are one of those “personality” trees. Figs are like that too. I miss all those wonderful Mediterranean plants I grew to love when I lived in Sonoma County (California). I can understand all the traditions and superstitions. Don’t even get me started on grape growers. We don’t go a day without using olive oil in this house.

Jeni~ I will absolutely like that info!! Agriturismo’s are not regulated, so sometimes if you are not careful you can wind up in a rather bad situation! Thanks for the offer

Great post…so educational! I, too, am fascinated by olives and olive trees. The trees themselves have so much character to them, don’t they? By the way, in my travels and research, I have run across some agriturismos that let you work a harvest. So, when you win that next jackpot and are ready to go, let me know.

Robin, wonderful post! I feel the same way as you. I would love the experience of picking the olives, bringing them to the press and happily enjoying the oil at dinnertime. The old trees are gorgeous as well.

Janie~ I think Provence and the French Riviera is my next trip. I have 2 good blogger friends down there, and I will be visiting them first. Then the next trip after that will be Italy. But, I am waiting for the dollar to go up and a deal on airfare…argh!
