I love Italy's wacky laws! It's all part of the Italian propensity for complexity IMHO.
I'll be mentioning this post on my blog.
Cheers,
Alex

Leanne~ Wow, no singing in prison. Who would have thought those clever Mafia would sing in code???
Fern~ Yes, that would be a catch 22. And I like sitting outside.
CirtyGirl~ Yeah, I like those 2 bans as well. For the best.
Rebecca~ OMG!! Who would do that to the poor child. Friday seems quite normal after that name :)

I can understand the ruling on the child's name. While I think naming the child Friday is not so bad, I did agree with a ruling in New Zealand I believe it was, where the courts said no to a name. The parents were going to name their child 'Tallulah Does the Hula'. That kid would have been messed up for life.

The smoking and too-skinny-models bans make sense -- but the others -- I'm not so sure. Then again, the cynic in me says, it's a way to raise revenue.

We remember way back when the law was first passed that people in cars have to wear seat belts. It took the people in Naples about 2 days to print and begin selling T-shirts with what looked like a seat belt going diagonally from shoulder to waist. Ha!
Up here in Liguria the smoking ban is very effective - but the unfortunate side-effect is that outdoor seating (the best in good weather) is now the smoking area. oh well - at least it all blows away fast...

The bans are so funny. Berlusconi has also banned Mafia inmates from singing in prison. Apparently they used to sing in jail in a way to pass secret messages to one another so now none of them are allowed to sing!
