I can't think of a reason why I would need, or want, to sleep in an airport. I have a hard enough time sleeping on the plane! Also, trouble sitting there for the required two hours before boarding time.
But, be that as it may, many people- whether they have a huge layover, a cancelled flight, a weather delay or they are trying to save money on a hotel- sleeping in airports happens.
According to Reuters, 62,000 travelers participated in a poll taken by the travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports {yes, apparently there is enough information on this topic to publish an entire website about it. Perhaps I have been living under a rock} and rated a variety of issues at airports around the world to come up with the Ten Best and the Ten Worst Airports to Sleep in.
Here are the results:

Ten Best Airports for Shut-eye
For further info, including the specific votes and comments for each airport, click through on the links above. A must read is Charles de Gaulles, in Paris.
And since I have not been to most that made the best list, I will look forward to the Temperpedic mattress, foot rub, morning coffee and newspaper that accompany my snooze. At least, this is what I would need in order for me to enjoy my sleep in an airport!
How 'bout you? Would you sleep in an airport?

About CDG airport, I agree that some terminals are old and crowded and not clean enough.
A few years ago we landed in CDG from JFK with a 6 hour delay, due to heavy storms in New York City. They made us disembark in an old terminal and when I wanted to use the bathroom (there was only ONE of them after going through immigration) it was so dirty that I had to step back… I was so ashamed for all the American tourists around, it really made me angry.
BUT the new terminal (2E) is great! They have seats everywhere, stores, wifi, massages etc.
JFK airport was pretty old and run down too, which really surprised me since I had always been used to big clean comfortable airports like Atlanta or Miami.

Hi Isabelle! That sounds completely awful. I have been in the *newer*, cleaner part of Charles de Galle and it has been pretty clean. JFK is my home airport and the one I am most usedto, so I think my standards are set pretty low to begin with- tho I don’t think I’d be sleeping there anytime soon.
Maybe if I get to one of the TOP TEN,I’ll know what I have benn missing all these years
I appreciate you taking the time toweigh in!

My friend Cheryl and I found ourselves arriving in Jakarta at midnight and the airport hotel shuttered and full for the night. Benches were our option until the 9am flight, but the small cockroaches crawling over every available space made that a nightmare. We finally found one bench that seemed fairly bug-free and propped ourselves up back to back and tucked inside our tightly wrapped sleep sacks, keeping an all-night vigil for anything stray and scurrying around! After that night, even a hostel bed never looked so good!

I have slept in several airports, and I can confirm that Incheon in Seoul is fab. There’s even a reasonably-priced hotel beyond security where you can rent a bed by the hour. Or get a massage. It is good!

HA! When I went to Europe in May I spent two nights at O’Hare (thanks to idiocy of Air France) and then two nights at Charles DeGaulle. Their place on the “worst airports” is most definetaly warranted.

OMG. Four nites on one trip?!!?!?! I think that you should own stock in the airline for that!! Or at least a free ticket anywhere in the world. Glad you are still alive to tell about it!!

I’ve slept in so many airports I can’t remember them all. Personally I enjoy it. It’s usually quiet and if it’s not I’m a heavy sleeper

You and I are both heavy sleepers- but my problem would be comfort. If I can’t getcomfy- I can’t sleep. I give youloads of credit my friend!
