And I had the good fortune of having an uncle living in Milano at the time who came out to show me the Venice outside of Piazza San Marco. I would have fallen in love with Venice anyway, to be honest, but to wander around the streets only locals wander, eat where the locals eat, scratch a local gatto's belly... that was heavenly. I spent a month in Italia this summer, but never made it up to Venezia, but I will be back there, assuredly, because I left a piece of my soul behind and have to go and give it some love.
