This month’s Travel Photo Friday shot was submitted by reader, Anne Arnott. Anne has spent quite a bit of time in Italy, and this time she offered up a new perspective on Italy. The photo was taken from a cable car that travels from Pigra to Argegno. If you are afraid of heights, hold on to your tummys folks!
Thanks for such a cool shot, Anne! What a view! I think I would have loved to see the water and tiny buildings down below getting closer and closer as the car approached.

This cable car is on my list!
What a lovely picture: you can see the shoreline of Lake Como on the right-hand side, the built-up area being Argegno. Lots to explore there. Apart from anything else, a road leads from Argegno over towards Lake Lugano. Must drive that one of these days too!
Coming back to the present, a recent cable-car excursion of ours was to Monteviasco, above Lake Maggiore. (Look for Luino, on the northern end of the lake’s Lombardy shoreline, and then inland!)
Until twenty years ago, this tiny village, at 900 metres above sea level, could be reached only on foot from the village of Curiglia, via a path consisting of 1200 steps cut into the hillside. Most of the inhabitants commuted weekly to Luino, on the lakeshore, during the week, clambering up the steps on Friday evening, procession-style. And down again on Sunday.
Then came the cable-car! life was revolutionized, as you can imagine. Today, the village has 12 inhabitants, the oldest being about 90, the youngest just 7 years old.
I have some pictures — and I must write something sometime (you know how it is!).
In the meantime, though, here’s a very good piece with some lovely images that I found on the net: http://labellacitta.com/2009/1.....nteviasco/
Enjoy!
