Boy, how the time flies. During the excitement of the new launch of the site, December snuck up on me and late last night (early this morning really!) I realized that today was the first Friday in December. And you know what that means?!
Travel Photo Friday! And I had NO post in the queue. Uh-oh.
What’s a girl to do?
Turn to her multi-talented rockstar web-designer- that’s what!
It just so happens that I realized my unfortunate predicament while on a Skype chat with my web-designer, Jon from SpyreStudios at 2:00am this morning. Earlier that evening, said web-designer had shown me some fabulous photos he took while touring Canada last year with his band, The Gods of Now (yes, he wears many hats, and wears them very well!)
So, while I am panicking on the inside, a little bell went off in my tired brain.
Me: “Jon, how would you like your photos to be featured in one of my Travel Photo Friday’s?
Jon : “Awesome”
Me : “Great. Uh, how ’bout like tomorrow?”
Jon : “Sure, but can I send the photos in the morning, it’s getting kinda late”
I mean seriously. How great is that?! He never hesitated or batted an eye.
Crisis averted. He saved me. Again.
And as promised, he sent me the photos this morning. Well, afternoon technically, but hey- I’m not complaining!
So here is December’s Travel Photo Friday – Jon’s beautiful photos of Canada, taken in September 2008, along with a short description of each one.
“This is the view of the Rockies on the way to Vancouver, British Columbia (on the ‘other side’ of the mountains). It goes on like this for miles. Beautiful.”
“This picture reminds me of the great time I’ve had in Lake Louise, Alberta while on tour with my band. The color of the water is simply amazing (and it’s damn cold). Apparently the lake has this aqua color because of what people there call ‘mountain dust’. When the ice melts it erodes the mountain and creates a fine dust that gets deposited at the bottom of the lake when Spring comes.”
“Another picture of Lake Louise. You can see in the middle (of the ‘V’ shape) where the glacier ‘should’ be. That glacier used to be much more prominent than that, but because of climate change it’s now reduced to what you see on the pic. Of course during winter there’s a lot more snow (this picture was taken in September) On the mountain there is snow all year ’round, but it’s actually pretty warm at the bottom and around the lake.”

Thanks Jon! Your photos are breathtaking. And you are a lifesaver. You can see more of Jon’s photos in his Flickr photostream.
And if your interested in having your travel photos featured – just send them along with a short description to me at mymelange {at} yahoo {dot} com.
